How do I acquire a Cask

How does this work?

To acquire ownership of a Scotch Whisky cask is very easy. Quartercasks.com will ensure that when the cask is bottled it is either sold throughout its network of worldwide distributors under a branded label or sold to Quartercask.com club members or supplied to you bottled under your very own label. No matter what happens you will either get back what you spent on your cask with your loyalty bonus (only for clients entering into an agreement to hold the cask for three years) or you will get the cask personally bottled with your own label.

Firstly you have to select the type of whisky from the current range of casks available. Not every whisky type and nor year is available: only limited releases are made each year for Quartercasks.com and these specific releases are within their optimum years. If you wish to buy a cask for immediate bottling we will select from whiskies that we feel are absolutely ready and will not improve by further maturation.

If you wish to join our loyalty scheme we will provide you with a cask that requires further quarter cask maturation - at least 1 to 3 years. These casks will be constantly monitored with samples taken every 6 months. When we feel the cask is ready to bottle we will advise you it is ready and provide you with your initial payment and a pro-rata payment for the period of cask ownership, or if you wish, another cask(s) can be bought.

For those wishing to purchase a cask for immediate bottling we can provide the full service of bottling the cask and dispatch of the bottles directly to you or your nominated recipient. There is an additional charge for bottling and excise tax if delivered in the UK.

 

Ok, how does it work in practice?

Let’s use an example : Mrs. Clinton would like to gift cask ownership to her husband William. She registers her interest online at quartercasks.com/buyacask or alternatively calls the order hotline on 0845 123456 and specifies the whisky type, year and cask type. Our sales team will provide the information over the telephone or by email for Mrs. Clinton to select from.

If Mrs. Clinton decides to buy an Octave cask, containing approximately 50 litres of spirit, and the price is acceptable to her, a pro-forma invoice is raised. Mrs. Clinton is given a unique cask number until payment is made. On payment, a certificate of ownership is sent to Mr. Clinton containing details of the cask, the three year loyalty scheme and a 5cl sample. Mr. Clinton will also receive a 6 monthly update on his cask, and will automatically become a member of the prestigious Quartercasks.com “Cask Holders Club” which issues a monthly newsletter..

When the cask reaches its optimum age then Mr. Clinton will be advised and can either bottle the cask or sell on and take advantage of the loyalty scheme. The cask will be bottled at the end of the three year contract period and Mr. Clinton will be able to participate in the bottling by having bottles under his own label for family , friends, or for his business or alternatively selling it for bottling by Quartercasks.com or even a mix of the two.

 

What do you get for your money:

If Mrs Clinton decides to gift a cask with a value of £5000, and decides to keep her cask for a three year period she will pay £5000 to Quartercasks.com and will receive a certificate clearly showing the loyalty bonus. Quartercasks.com annual loyalty bonus is 5% of the cask value, equating to 15% loyalty bonus at the end of the 3 year period. When Mr. Clinton cashes in the certificate at three years he will receive his £5,000 plus the loyalty bonus of £750.

If Mr Clinton decides to bottle the cask for his own use then he will have some of the best and most unique Scotch Whisky in the world, to share with friends and family.
